5G

Dedicated to the promotion of research, collaboration and the commercial application of 5G in the UK.

5G Cellular Network Technology

The mobile telecoms landscape is constantly evolving and with the development of 5G, everyone is asking – is 5G “just another upgrade?” Far from it – 5G is a huge leap forward – akin to the shift from the horse and cart to motorised vehicles.

5G promises to become the underpinning for the entire global digital economy, capable of generating trillions of pounds of value.

5G is of critical importance to the UK economy, and the Government is supporting all efforts to help the UK become a market leader in exploiting the technology. It has recently published a strategy to orchestrate a vibrant UK 5G world and the actions needed to speed its introduction. It is actively coordinating efforts to accelerate making 5G a reality and is funding trials of the technology, ground-breaking applications and innovative business partnerships across a wide range of urban and rural applications.

KTN is at the heart of the UK’s strategic plans for 5G. It is a founding delivery partner of the UK5G Innovation Network, dedicated to the promotion of research, collaboration and the commercial application of 5G in the UK.

As a ‘network of networks’, UK5G facilitates and encourages the engagement and coordination of organisations working on 5G activities across the UK. It enhances links between ongoing research and development activities being undertaken by organisations across telecoms and other sectors, including the UK Government’s 5G Testbeds and Trials Programme.
